SOUTHBOUND

Got out of bed, four in the morning

Bad weather’s coming, you better take warning

Thought I could make it if I left before the dawn

Got myself packed, put the coffee on

Hugged my dad and I said so long

Lightening struck and the thunder roared

As I headed towards the door

Southbound on I-35

I ain’t stopping ‘till I arrive

Southbound on I-35

I’m gonna get back home to Texas tonight

Cars were crashing all along the road

I saw a semi who had lost his load

My fingers white as they clenched tight on the wheel

I kept my eyes glued on the white line

Windshield wipers were slapping time

I was bound and determined

I was gonna make it home on time

Too many days and too many nights

Too many wrongs without any rights

I don’t know how I’ll make it up to you

Ten in the morning and it’s still pouring

Don’t think it’ll let up soon

So I’ll keep this car moving southbound

Cause it’s all I know to do
