CIGARETTES & BEER

Said he was going out for cigarettes and beer

but the store it ain’t that far

and it’s been years and years

I’ve gotten over wondering

and I’ve dried up all my tears

I finally realized he ain’t coming back ‘round here

Cigarettes and beer, cigarettes and beer, cigarettes and beer

I tried to raise the kids up right, but it’s hard when you’re alone

Some nights I’d get so tired I’d ache down to my bones

He never sent no birthday money, hell he never even phoned

Well a man that acts that way, must be cold as stone

Cigarettes and beer, cigarettes and beer, cigarettes and beer

My momma always told me he just ain’t no good

I know I shoulda listened but my heart’s not made of wood

Oh and he could move me, he could get me in the mood

He could also drink a week of pay and not buy any food

Cigarettes and beer, cigarettes and beer, cigarettes and beer.

Some say he was a good man,  some say he wouldn’t walk away

Some they question my story and some think I should pay

But they never found his body and they searched night and day

So you can point your finger and stare but you can’t prove what they say

Cigarettes and beer...

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it

Cigarettes and beer
