Moving Pictures: Blu

The current topic in Fundamentals of Photography is controlling time and motion through shutter speed. In addition to showing examples of stop action, virtual volume, and panning; I like to show stop motion films. This one by Blu is a perennial favorite. The animation is drawn frame by frame and then shot with a hand-held still camera. It never ceases to fascinate me - at first I was dazzled by the animation, now I am drawn to other aspects like watching the sun move across the sky, the way music and ambient noise add to the narrative, and contemplating the artist on the street creating this film. I also enjoy how it expands the conversation about time and the potential of still photography.
